Wild Bill Hickok came west as a stagecoach driver, then became a lawman in the frontier territories of Kansas and Nebraska. He gained publicity after the war as a scout, gunfighter, marksman, and professional gambler. He was killed while sitting at a poker game in Deadwood, South Dakota. When shot, Hickok was holding a pair of aces and a pair of eights, all black. The fifth card is thought to be a red face card, but it will forever be an area for debate.

The Sun Dance is a ceremony practiced by many different North American Indians, usually at the time of the Summer Solstice. It is the buffalo that makes up the main theme of the Sun Dance. The Cheyenne held a principle that all essential sacred items in the Sun Dance be related to the buffalo. The Shoshone believe that the buffalo taught someone the proper way to carry out the dance and the significance in doing it.
